Pump guns 'n what not
« on: February 02, 2017, 09:53:14 PM »
So I'm in the market for a pump gun, and I'm just looking for advice on what I should be looking for. My budget is 300-400$. Thanks!

I've shot a lot of pump markers, and my vote for best bang for the buck is an Azodin KP3 (or a KP2 with a single trigger frame). I don't know what the used market price on those is right now, but probably ballpark $200, so plenty of room left in your budget. Or pick up a new one for $270.

The finish on the Azodins will be slightly worse than an Empire Sniper, but I think the reliability, component quality, and performance are all on par or better, and you're saving about $100.

And of course, CCMs are top-level fit, finish and performance. But in my mind, you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference in an actual game, unless you love to auto-trigger. (And if that's the case, why are you fooling yourself with a pump?).

Also, the stacked-tube, open class pumps (aka "sniper" or "cocker pump) style is usually easiest to get used to. I used to be able to play stock class really well with my phantom. But I just don't play enough any more to have that snap shot memory you need. For that reason, I typically don't suggest Phantoms, Trracers, Hammers, etc as a first pump.

Although if you really like single-tube markers instead of stacked-tubes, either a Phantom (higher end) or SL-68 II/III (lower end) are really excellent markers.

I will have both my pumps ready at the caves for you to try out. I am not selling but it would be good to try a nelson in addition to what Lo has to offer. In contrast to Lo I recommend the phantom for the flexibility it allows. You can change out between pump styles, feed types, and air source location with just an extra part or two. I can show you what I mean later. Also they are very light and tight.

I do agree that the KP3 is an excellent shooter and are really comfortable but I just can't shake a nelson pump right now.

For $400 there are very few plain jane pumps that will be out of your reach.

I concur with Lo on stacked tube markers. Its the way to go. Best in terms of gas force through the barrel vs straight tube design. If you choose to play stock glass with 12gram co2 then single tube give better gas effeciency.
