My Tanks
« on: March 22, 2010, 10:30:29 AM »
Good news: i got my tank back from JT, looks like they just gave me a new tank... so sweet, (still got to test it before i get too happy, it is still a WGP item)

Bad news: in compairing my tanks, i took off my neoprene cover off my god tank, only to find cracks. My question is, Do i need to worry? the clear coating on the tank has some cracks in it, large enough that they catch a finger nail as they run over it... If this is a bad thing, is it something i did or should i send it off as well?

The crack in the tank could have happened when you did the triple lux linding dive/crash flip face plant at Red Dawn!  Might want to have it looked at, or just pay $15 and have another hydro on it.

id get it tested, in our ref class we were told to eject players with cracks in their tanks. if its just the resin the hydro place can fix it when they retag it. but i guess its really up to you is ur life worth more than 25-30 bux for a hydro and repair?

See if jt will fix it, if they won't do it for free send it somewhere else, manufacturer repair fees are pretty costly normally

Call JT see what they can or will do then go from there.

But here is my problem. I took my cover off to put it on my other tank, and low and behold, i have a crack in it. It isn't a scratch, but a crack in the clear coating surrounding the label but above the actual fibers. It is right in the middle of the tank, so it doesn't go right to the fibers, but only right to the label. In most places you can SEE the crack, but not feel it at all (you can run your fingernail perpendicular to the run of the crack and it goes over it smooth. There is prolly only 2 inches total that your fingernail would detect the flaw that is clearly seen. My question then is, AM I OK (may sound dumb)? do i need to have this re hydro'd? can it be fixed, If so, how could i approach the manufactore about this. it still has 3 or 4 hydro years and doesn't look bad, it is just odd, as most might say. Please let me know, i can take pictures if it would help, but my description is pretty much what you would see (if the camera would even pick it up).

p.s. This tank has never taken a fall or run into anything. It has always been in a cover and not abused.

Tank mfgs, had a problem with the cover coat not curing properly and subsequently cracking after a period of use. The tank actually expands when pressurized and the coating didn't, causing cracks. GA and Ninja replaced their cracked tanks under warranty and I would suspect that WGP would have a similar policy. The cracks are not a safety issue but are disturbing to see and some fields will not fill a tank because of this.
