ok, the good ol Smart Parts Ion.  For some reason some people hate this gun, but can never give me a real reason why the gun is bad.

Here is my setup:
Ion, $120 brand new because they were just coming out with the next generation of ion's, so I got it cheap.

Trigger - havn't adjusted it, stock from factory
Internals - Bone stock
Barrel - stock barrel is pretty decent, puts any tippmann barrel to shame, but I threw on a lucky barrel (14 or 16 inches) 1 peice.  Super good barrel, its not quite as accurate or quiet as a Freak, but its pretty close and I noticed it has a lot more distance than any other Ion i have shot.
Mini drop forward with on / off

thats it.

Being a pump convert from a phantom, I can vouch for the accuracy.  Whether you like or hate Ions one thing is certain, it DOES ITS JOB.  Its an electro for dumb lazy people like me that dont want to tune, shim, lube, etc etc there gun.  I want to gas it up and go, and thats exactly what it does.  It has NEVER chopped a ball, even playing in a torrential downpour at UWL Oklahoma.  Although there are faster guns out there, it shoots fast enough, and could shoot faster if id mess with the trigger and stuff, but it doesn't matter, people have already mistaken me as the heavy because it can still lay down a consistent stream of paint.  Good enough.  So final thought, its a GREAT gun, if you get it knowing what to expect.  Its the tippmann 98 of electros.  Mine literally had standing water in it once and it STILL SHOT WELL.  It is accurate, shoots pretty fast, and is durable - can't ask for much more than that.  So autococker guys that for whatever reason scoff me for loving my Ion, remember that Im out there shooting people with it while you tune your's. I know because I have an autococker rusting apart on the floor of my 93 4-runner.

My friend is thinking about selling his ion to me for 100 bucks.... I've used the thing maybe once and he's taken it out I believe 3 times, just couldn't find the time for paintball. I really want to get into an electro thats semi light and can do work. I was thinking of saving it and get an ego or etek2 (like what Escort has) but if this thing will work just fine, shoots at least 12 bps and doesnt chop, I don't see the point in spending 400+.... should I go for it?
Be not that far from me, for trouble is near; haste Thee to help me. Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight. My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me

Nic Tabor, Aaron Tabor, Woody, Static, and Thundercurls have all been pretty happy with their ions. however, keep in mind this gun is no longer in production, and they don't make parts for it. It is a good gun from what i have heard, but keep that in mind. Send PM's to these guys see what they have to say.

They do still make parts for it. Its the GoG Xtacy or whatever. Plus, there are absolutely TONS of spare parts, and after market parts that are available super cheap. Its a great little gun IMO.

The ion is not in production any more. It's manfacturer, Smart parts, went out of business. It is, and will be for some time, a popular gun so there are lots of parts available, but that number will go down. The following guns are built on the ION platform..
Ion (Of course)
Ion Xe
SP-8
Vibe
SP-1
Epiphany
Eos
Envy
G-1
So many parts available.. but like i said, The ION's are no longer in production and they do not make parts for it. They do however make parts for some of these other guns that are compatible with the Ion. It is kinda splitting hairs, but it is important to note. I agree with slipps though, it is a great gun. Unbeatable for the price that is for sure. My 1 recommendation however, get an XE if possible, the bolt out the back system is much easier to work with.

This isnt exactly true. The extcy only shares bolts with the ion. The board is more like the SP Vibe.
